Data Mining

Stepping right in to the middle of a series over at Brendan Tierney - Oracle & Data Mining Blog, here is a link to Clustering in Oracle Data Miner–Part 3. We leave it as an exercise to the reader to track back to part 1.

BPM

And over at CONFESSIONS OF A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, BPM: how to time out synchronous calls to external services?

Troubleshooting

At Ora-600, a detective tale of recovering from an error. I would add one caveat: When in doubt, take it to Support. If you open an SR and follow the process you know you are going to stay in the warm and fuzzy realm of being supported. But it's an impressive read: Recover from unusable dictionary indexes in 10g using 11g.

Upgrades

Good note links to keep in a little box on the wall that says 'in case of debacle, break glass'. Database downgrade - MOS useful notes, from Jaffar's Oracle blog.

Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Update for February 2013

The Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Update for February 2013 was released on February 1st, 2013. The original Critical Patch Update for Java SE was scheduled on February 19th , but Oracle decided to accelerate the release of this Critical Patch Update because active exploitation “in the wild” of one of the vulnerabilities affecting the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in desktop browsers, was addressed with this Critical Patch Update. Oracle strongly recommends applying the patches as soon as possible.

The Critical Patch Update Advisory is the starting point for relevant information. It includes a list of products affected, pointers to obtain the patches, a summary of the security vulnerabilities, and links to other important documents.

Also, it is essential to review the Critical Patch Update supporting documentation referenced in the Advisory before applying patches, as this is where you can find important pertinent information.

The Critical Patch Update Advisories are available at the following location:

Oracle Technology Network:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/alerts-086861.html

Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Update for February 2013:

Oracle Technology Network:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/javacpufeb2013-1841061.html

The next three scheduled dates for Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Updates are:
  • 18 June 2013
  • 15 October 2013
  • 14 January 2014
Sincerely,
Oracle Security Alerts

Improve Issue-to-Resolution-Time with Demo It To Oracle (DITO)

If you are having problems arranging an OWC with Support to see your problem or issue, DITO (Demo It To Oracle) can help you.  DITO uses CamStudio, a third party desktop recording software that is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer into standard AVI video files and uses its built-in SWF (Streaming Flash Video) Producer to turn those AVIs into smaller, bandwidth-friendly streaming flash videos.

The idea of DITO is that you can demonstrate your issue for Oracle Support just like you do on an Oracle Web Conference; however, you can do this offline at your convenience without having to arrange for the presence of a support engineer.  You can make the recordings available to Oracle Support by uploading them to your SR in My Oracle Support.

This tool will record the reproducing steps from the customer that will allow Support or Development see what happens without setting up an OWC.
For complete instructions on how to use DITO, please refer to "Ditto It To Oracle" (DITO) CamStudio Help (Doc ID 11.1)
